Adoption Details

Adopting from Foothills Canine Rescue

We offer adoptions on a first-come first-served basis. Our Adoption Center at 220 Joyceton Church Rd., Lenoir, NC is open 12pm-4pm on Saturdays and by appointment. Our last Saturday appointment is scheduled for 3:30pm.

To Adopt a Dog in our Bunch Anderson Shelter:

    • Interested dog adopters are encouraged to complete an adoption application prior to visiting in person to make the process as smooth as possible. You can complete an application by clicking on the picture of the dog you’d like to apply for.
    • Walk-ins for dog adoptions are accommodated as available during open hours.
    • During your dog adoption appointment, an adoption counselor will spend time talking with you about the kind of dog you’re looking for and will introduce you to dogs in our Bunch Anderson Shelter or suggest a dog we have in foster care and arrange that meeting for a future date.
    • If an adoption counselor is not available to assist you immediately, you will be added to our wait list. Wait times vary.

To Adopt a Dog residing in Foster Care:

    • Interested dog adopters are encouraged to complete an adoption application prior to visiting in person to make the process as smooth as possible. You can complete an application by clicking on the picture of the dog you’d like to apply for.
    • Once your application has been reviewed and approved, you will be contacted for your scheduled Meet & Greet appointment. Appointments are made for Saturdays and often during weekdays.

Submitting an online application for a dog only expresses interest, it does not put a hold on that dog or guarantee that you can adopt them.

You must have an adoption application on file to meet any dog/puppy who is residing in one of our loving foster homes. A meeting time between you, the foster, and an Adoption Counselor will have to be coordinated before a meeting time is set.

Individuals interested in adopting a puppy are strongly encouraged to download and read this FREE eBook. Even if you’ve raised puppies in the past, this is a valuable resource to help you make your addition successful for all!

Most of our dogs are ready to go home with you the same day you meet them.

Adopters are required to be at least 18 years of age.

OPEN ADOPTIONS

  • You can visit Bunch Anderson Shelter Dogs on Saturdays from 12-4pm. We host Outdoor Adoption Events for Foster Dogs on select Saturdays. For an up-to-date schedule, visit our Facebook page.
  • Before your visit, we recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete.
  • Please feel free to browse our selection of adoptable dogs in advance.

ADOPTION FEES

Our adoptions fees range from $150-$600. All dogs receive a great deal of care during their stay with Foothills Canine Rescue. Adoption fees help cover a small portion of the costs associated with the basic care we provide and any additional medical support. Adult dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm (treated if positive and started on prevention when negative), up to date on vaccinations, and treated for parasites. A refundable spay/neuter deposit is required for puppies who are too young to be altered prior to adoption.

  • Fosters should work with a foster dog as they would any new pet in the home. Basic commands, such as: sit, down, stay; house, leash and crate training; socialization with people and other pets. Crate-training is highly encouraged and FCR will provide one, if needed.

  • Fosters are encouraged to network with each other to cover vacations and emergency care for their foster dogs and to give the Foster Coordinator ample notice of such needs.

  • Fosters should be enthusiastic about getting their foster dog adopted as soon as possible.

  • Fosters are asked to provide food for their foster dogs as part of their volunteer commitment. FCR can provide this if the foster is unable to.

  • Updated pictures every two weeks following intake. Two or three good pics is sufficient.

  • Biographical information upon getting to know your foster, and then as you notice additional changes in behaviors/habits, send us that information.

  • Fosters will bring their foster dog to events as scheduled by the Adoption Events Coordinator.

  • Fosters are encouraged to “SHARE” posts about their adoptable foster dogs on Facebook and other social media to spread the word. They may personalize a note with their “SHARE” and send updated pictures directly to FCR to make original posts.

  • Fosters are also encouraged to like, comment, and share posts about all of our adoptable dogs from FB and other social media sites.

  • FCR will provide veterinary services for all foster dogs, including the monthly maintenance of heartworm, & tick & flea prevention as needed.

  • If the dog isn’t altered upon foster intake, the foster agrees to keep the dog away from intact members of the opposite sex and will bring the dog to the requested facility when the time has come to have their foster dog spayed/neutered.
At Foothills Canine Rescue, we work to save the lives of as many dogs as possible. Each year, because of supporters like you, we are able to positively impact hundreds of dogs. We never euthanize a dog due to space or length of stay. We use euthanasia as a compassionate, end-of-life decision when a dog is suffering from a severe medical or behavioral condition and with the recommendation of our attending veterinarian. At FCR, we make decisions based on what is best for the dogs in our care, and for the safety of our community. To us, No-Kill means that we do our absolute best to ensure a live outcome.
