Fostering a dog for FCR

Thank you for your interest in becoming a foster parent for Foothills Canine Rescue. We have an ongoing, often urgent, need for fosters!

Foothills Canine Rescue is dedicated to the welfare of innocent dogs. Our foster dog program has been organized to temporarily care for dogs that need a permanent home. Your decision to open your home & heart as a foster haven for a dog in need is deeply appreciated. We need the assistance of committed & caring community members like you to continue to save Caldwell County’s homeless, unwanted, & abandoned canines.

Fosters needed for:

  • Dogs in immediate danger of being euthanized at local & surrounding shelters.
  • Bunch Anderson Resident Dogs who return from spay/neuter clinic & need 5-7 days to recover before returning to their kennel.
  • Dogs/puppies turned over to us from the general public for a variety of reasons who would otherwise be taken to Animal Control.
  • Our current fosters who need temporary relief from fostering to go on vacation or just need a short respite.
At Foothills Canine Rescue, our goal is to find forever homes for our dogs within 3 months. Many times, they are placed sooner and sometimes it takes longer. Your commitment to foster a dog until s/he finds the perfect home is appreciated. Fostering even a single dog each year would help us change the world, one dog at a time.

We won’t ask you to foster more than 2 dogs unless it is a litter of puppies.
If you are unable to provide food, FCR will supply the dog/puppy food.

    • Please work with your foster dog as you would any new pet in the home. Basic commands, such as sit, down, stay; house, leash and crate training; socialization with people and other pets. Crate-training is highly encouraged, and FCR will provide one if needed.
 
    • Enthusiasm is contagious! Your excitement about finding forever homes for all of our dogs will help get them to their forever faster. Please share all FCR Facebooks posts and talk about FCR to your family, friends, neighbors and coworkers.
 
    • If you are able to provide nutritious food for your foster dog, that is helpful to us. If you are unable, FCR will provide food. Please request this from the FCR Foster Coordinator.
 
    • We constantly update our social media sites. If you could send us updated pictures of your foster dog, that keeps our marketing “fresh.” One or two new pictures every two weeks is sufficient.
 
    • Once you get to know your foster, please send us biographical information. As you notice additional changes in behaviors/habits, send us that information, too.
At Foothills Canine Rescue, we work to save the lives of as many dogs as possible. Each year, because of supporters like you, we are able to positively impact hundreds of dogs. We never euthanize a dog due to space or length of stay. We use euthanasia as a compassionate, end-of-life decision when a dog is suffering from a severe medical or behavioral condition and with the recommendation of our attending veterinarian. At FCR, we make decisions based on what is best for the dogs in our care, and for the safety of our community. To us, No-Kill means that we do our absolute best to ensure a live outcome.
