What are your hours / locations?

Our Adoption Center is located at 220 Joyceton Church Rd. in Lenoir. For more information about adopting click here.

Our Adoption Center hours are Saturdays 10 am – 2:00 pm, and by appointment.

What should I do if I find a stray animal?

If the animal is friendly and responds to you, look for ID tags or a microchip tag on the animal’s collar and contact their parents and make a plan to safely return the animal to its home!

If you can’t approach or safely contain the animal, please call Caldwell County Animal Care & Control and give them detailed information about the animal in need so they can assist: 828-572-4535.

All stray animals need to go through the Caldwell County shelter for a stray hold. You may bring a found pet to the Caldwell County Animal Shelter during their business hours, Mon-Wed, 10am-4:45pm & Thur-Fri 10am-4:45pm. They are located at 180 Government Way SW, Lenoir, NC.

How do I adopt a dog from FCR?

Our website is always current with adoptable dogs. If you are interested in adopting a dog from FCR, check our ADOPT page. Find the dog you are looking for and click on his/her photo. Click on the “Apply for Adoption” button on the right. Adoption applications are reviewed in the order they are received.

How do I know if a dog has already been adopted?

Our dogs are always adopted on a first-come, first-served basis as long as an application is approved for that dog.

Are my donations to your organization tax deductible?

Yes! We are a registered 501c3 organization and are always happy to provide a donation receipt for tax purposes, as well as a year-end total receipt for monthly donors.

What are your fees for adopting?

Adoption fees help cover a small portion of the costs associated with the basic care we provide to our dogs and any additional medical support and can range anywhere from $150 to $600.

What do I need to bring when adopting an animal?

When adopting any animal, please have your payment for the adoption fee, a driver’s license or ID, and a safe way to transport the animal home. For dogs, bring a harness/collar and leash.

I know of an animal in an abusive situation – what do I do?

FCR deeply cares about how all animals are treated in our community. We work with the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Lenoir Police Department to report animal abuse and neglect. To report animal abuse, neglect or cruelty in the City of Lenoir, please call Animal Services at 828-572-4535. To report abuse, neglect or animal cruelty outside city limits, please call the Sheriff’s Office at 828-758-2324.

    • Please work with your foster dog as you would any new pet in the home. Basic commands, such as sit, down, stay; house, leash and crate training; socialization with people and other pets. Crate-training is highly encouraged, and FCR will provide one if needed.
 
    • Enthusiasm is contagious! Your excitement about finding forever homes for all of our dogs will help get them to their forever faster. Please share all FCR Facebooks posts and talk about FCR to your family, friends, neighbors and coworkers.
 
    • If you are able to provide nutritious food for your foster dog, that is helpful to us. If you are unable, FCR will provide food. Please request this from the FCR Foster Coordinator.
 
    • We constantly update our social media sites. If you could send us updated pictures of your foster dog, that keeps our marketing “fresh.” One or two new pictures every two weeks is sufficient.
 
    • Once you get to know your foster, please send us biographical information. As you notice additional changes in behaviors/habits, send us that information, too.
At Foothills Canine Rescue, we work to save the lives of as many dogs as possible. Each year, because of supporters like you, we are able to positively impact hundreds of dogs. We never euthanize a dog due to space or length of stay. We use euthanasia as a compassionate, end-of-life decision when a dog is suffering from a severe medical or behavioral condition and with the recommendation of our attending veterinarian. At FCR, we make decisions based on what is best for the dogs in our care, and for the safety of our community. To us, No-Kill means that we do our absolute best to ensure a live outcome.
